Stylish Basement Remodel in Alpharetta
Step downstairs to see a beautiful and stylish basement remodel we recently completed for our Alpharetta clients. We’ll start with the stairs which have dark-stained hardwood treads, dual handrails for safety and a beautiful runner that is durable enough to handle a lot of traffic.
The program included a living room open to a full kitchen in the main basement great room space. There was also room for a home office, a home gym, an expansive playroom for the kids and a full bath. We customized these spaces to suit the family’s lifestyle, adding amenities like extra storage.

Unfinished Basement
The basement was in the typical unfinished condition, with a concrete floor, exposed insulation, ductwork, electrical and plumbing. One major thing it had going for it was that it was not 100% subterranean. Because of the slope the house sits upon, the back of the space was walk-out and had full-sized windows that let in natural light. You can see that light streaming in on the right side of this photo.
Tip: When planning your own basement remodel, think about which rooms need the light the most. For example, you may want it for the space where everyone will be spending the most time down here, like a living room. Conversely, if the basement is more of a night-time spot to watch movies, you may want to enjoy that natural light during workouts in a home gym in the morning.

Finished Basement
In the heart of the space, an inviting living room enjoys the natural light from the windows. The color palette also helps keep the room feeling bright and inviting.
Paint
Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee paint is light yet soft and creamy. Floral patterns and artwork along with antiques and glossy green side tables bring in our clients’ personal style.
TV
We also recommended a Frame TV from Samsung (left). This will camouflage itself as a painting when it’s not being used as a TV.

Renovated Basement Great Room
The living room is completely open to the basement’s full kitchen, where bar stools can be turned around to watch TV during parties and gatherings to watch sports.

Ceilings
A tricky challenge almost all basements present is low ceilings and ductwork that hangs low. To make these ceilings as high as possible, we encased the ductwork in soffits. But to make it a stylish basement remodel, we made the ductwork arrangement we inherited look intentional by extending the soffits and organizing them in a pleasing way. For example, here it gave the living room area a tray ceiling.
Flooring
The flooring looks convincingly like wood but is actually luxury vinyl planks, a perfect choice for basement conditions. This particular floor is Conniston Oxford from Legendary Floors.

Basement Kitchen
The kitchen’s quartzite countertops, coordinating herringbone marble backsplash and brass accents played a big role in making this a stylish basement remodel.
Tip: Think about what you’ll want to be eating and drinking in the basement:
- Do you like to prepare a smoothie after a workout?
- Do you regularly make popcorn for movie night?
- Will you want an ice maker for parties?
- Do you want easy access to coffee when working in the home office?
- Are kids going to want to be able to grab drinks for themselves with ease?
- Would extra freezer space be an asset for things like frozen appetizers or popsicles?

The beverage fridge is located on the side of the island, making it easy to grab a beer or soda during a Yellowjackets game. There’s also a full fridge along the back wall.

The raffia-wrapped counter stools with caned backs add warm texture to the space, while the sconces bring in another layer of light.

Basement Playroom
The expansive playroom is a flexible space, and for now, leaving lots of room for play on the rug was the best use of this space. Dual armoires provide plenty of space for storing toys, books, games and other equipment. This space also enjoys the natural light from the windows and glass doors.
The double doors lead to the home office.

Home Office
To create a stylish home office, the homeowners anchored the room with a beautiful area rug. A desk and coordinating credenza with bookshelves provide space for everything needed, while natural light streams into the room through the full-size windows. Lighting includes a mix of recessed ceiling lights and a gorgeous flush-mount fixture.

Home Gym
The tray ceiling idea continues in the separate home gym. Because this room does not enjoy natural sunlight, we used recessed ceiling lights to keep it bright and cheerful. The homeowners added personal style by displaying a collection of prints from favorite golf tournaments and Tech Tower.
Tip: When planning a home gym, think about every piece of equipment you’d like to use there, as well as the floor space required for other types of exercise you’ll do when you’re working out. Also think about screens, how you’ll want to listen to and control your music and whether you’ll want mirrors to check your form.

Full Basement Bathroom
The sumptuous full-size bathroom in the basement is the pièce de résistance, and frankly, no stylish basement remodel is complete without one! Upon opening the door, one looks straight across the generous shower stall through a clear glass enclosure to the elongated subway zellige tile and marble mosaic floor and niche tile.

Wallpaper
Thibaut’s Holiday Trellis wallpaper absolutely makes the room. The sweet, small-scale print adds so much interest to the walls.
Mirror and Sconces
The mirror shape and brass finishes, paired with the Thomas O’Brien for Visual Comfort sconces bring in warmth and shine.
Vanity
The vanity is custom and packs in handy storage with a bank of drawers that runs down the right. The Shaker style-cabinet fits right into the charming space.

Basement Hallway
Within the finished basement layout, we made the most of this hallway by creating a desk with storage at the back of the space. This area is perfect for working on crafts, sewing, wrapping gifts and other projects. It can also serve as a home office and command central for the household.
The doors lead to the home gym, the full bathroom, a holiday storage closet and a utility closet.

Stylish Basement Remodel Floor Plan
The finished basement layout of our stylish basement remodel shows how everything fits together and flows. The office and gym are on the left, the playroom, bathroom and storage are in the center and the stairs leading to the long open living area and kitchen are on the right.
The top of the plan shows all the rooms that enjoy the natural light from the windows and doors.
