British Pub Basement Renovation
This Atlanta area British Pub Basement Renovation left no detail out. Ornate carved wood, stained glass accents, a hammered brass bar sink, beautiful millwork, a billiards room, a Tiffany-esque pool table light fixture and more add scads of character to this customized space.
Our client hails from England, but has lived in Georgia for years. So making her house feel more like the U.K. was long overdue. It was so much fun to work with clients who had a “more is more” attitude. She didn’t leave a detail out!
Our client was craving new spaces to hang out and enjoy with friends. And you can enjoy it here. Welcome to the British pub basement renovation. Sit back, have a pint and enjoy the tour!
British Pub Basement Renovation: The Billiard Room
While rising rent prices have brought about the disappearance of billiard tables in many British pubs, they are a long tradition. And our client wanted to bring it to her basement pub. The pool table room is open to the bar, but located in a separate space. (And there’s plenty of room for extended cues, unlike when George Costanza’s father turned his old bedroom into a billiard room.)
The stained glass billiard fixture over the pool table plays off other stained glass elements used over on the bar. Deep green walls and custom wood millwork make it hard to believe this is a basement.
The Heart of the British Pub Renovation: The Pub Room
The mahogany bar in this space is probably the most spectacular one we’ve ever built. The curves, the ornate wood carving, the stained glass details, including transoms, make it so special. Oh and the brass foot rail, hammered sink, mirrors, decorative plates, lighting in the soffits to illuminate the bar … we could go on and on!
A handsome banquette continues the use of wood along the exposed brick wall. Brass sconces add additional light, while Union Jack pillows pay homage to merry old England. And don’t forget to look up! The copper pressed ceiling tiles provide a warm glow overhead.
British Pub Basement Renovation: The Bar
Mirrors reflect the built-in lights overhead. Here in Atlanta, when our client doesn’t have the energy for hitting local haunts like The King George Tavern or The Manchester Arms, she can head downstairs. Her basement is the coziest bar spot in metro Atlanta.
You simple must get a gander at this intricately carved wood close up! This lends an old-world look to the relatively new home. This bar was custom built overseas for the space.
A hammered unlacquered brass bar sink is conveniently located behind the bar. This traditional faucet set fits right into the old world bar.
All the stained glass and mirrors are trimmed out in matching ornate frames. Note how the carved details around the built-in mirrors match the millwork around the other intricate details.
Custom stained glass details adorn the bar area, on the sides and the back of the bar.
In fact, the stained glass even continues on the ceiling!
Under the bar, the storage is laid out for a wide variety of glassware and liquor bottles. The size and heights of these items informed the customization of the shelving. Behind the bar there is a fridge, a wine fridge and a microwave. There are also outlets for plugging in the blender.
Also, check out the transom over the bar, and the shelves for books and other decorative items that kiss the ceiling. Below, you can catch a glimpse of the dual fridge and microwave. These are hidden from view for those who are bellied up to the bar.
British Pub Renovation Gets Warm
A beautiful black wood stove provides warmth between the billiard room and the bar. We love the simple style of this stove and the glow it provides both spaces. The homeowner reports that many a night has been spent with friends around the pool table and the pub table while enjoying the warmth from the stove.
A bar in the billiard room serves players and spectators. This photo also shows how we continued the British racing green from the walls up across the ceiling. Our client’s collection of equestrian prints were inspired by traditional British pub decorations.
British Pub Basement Renovation: The Bathroom
The British pub basement renovation also included adding a full bathroom. We continued the green and brass into the bathroom’s color palette. In addition, we brought in the stained glass motif on the light fixture. The mirror frame’s intricate carving nods to the carvings on the bar.
The tile in the shower has to be one of our all-time favorites. The variation of deep green hues within these tumbled elongated subway tiles is simply stunning. Warm metal and traditional cross handle faucets continue the classic feeling of the entire basement.
On the floor, black penny rounds meet the green tiles on the threshold. We continued the tile across both the bathroom and shower floor for a cohesive look.
Now, our English client truly feels at home here in Georgia. And she loves sharing it with family and friends.
