10 Pretty Powder Rooms
Powder rooms are so much fun to renovate. They are small but they can be mighty. And they certainly can be very pretty. So we present 10 pretty powder rooms to you now.
Other design decisions also make a big impact in a powder room. These include the mirror, lighting choices and faucets. And of course your flooring, vanity and countertop should fit in as well. But when you’re going for a starring pattern on the walls, all these choices are secondary players.
Whether you’re looking for a bold botanical, subtly soothing, geometric or whimsical patterns, they all work in these little jewel boxes of rooms! So sit back, relax and see if any of these 10 pretty powder rooms’ renovations inspire your own home.
Whimsical Patterns
The wallpaper in this powder room is sneaky. It’s got a classic pattern to it, and it’s very pretty. But if you look really closely, it’s composed of beautiful little beetles! We love the way our clients kept the whimsy going by adding a serious colonial portrait on top of the loo.
Powder room proportions can be tricky, so getting an interior designer’s help is a good idea. For example, note the extra height of the mirror. It’s fitting for the tall room.
Bright color, plump fruits on trees, lovely butterflies … this wallpaper has it all. That’s why it was also important to take the wainscoting up! It provides a good balance between the explosion of color and calmer white millwork.
There are subtle things happening that make this one of our top 10 pretty powder rooms. Note the way the silhouettes of the sink legs play off the round and ripe fruits in the pattern. And the way the big bold mirror frame mimics the traditional millwork in the wainscoting.
One more important thing to know about open sinks like this one … the P-trap is the pipe that shows underneath the sink. You do not want some ugly PVC thing showing! You want a sleek and pretty P-trap like this one with a nice finish.
Botanical Patterns
The thing to know about picking a wallpaper pattern for a powder room is that it can feel counterintuitive. Because often, even though these rooms are very small, a large-scale pattern is the best choice. Especially with fabulous flowers!
In this particular room, we love the way the unique curve of the vanity relates to the twining vines in the wallpaper pattern. And the beautiful curves in the scalloped mirror frame play off it as well.
Here’s that same paper in a different colorway with different finishes. In this room, the herringbone floor tile pattern and vanity’s straight lines provide contrast to the curved vines.
However, the fluted tubes of the sconces converse with the wallpaper’s twining vines. And the brass finish plays off the accent colors in the paper.

This powder room features another amazing wallpaper and sconce pairing. Check out the lilies and their pads in this almost-otherworldly wallpaper. Then admire how the petaled sconces are the perfect accompaniment.
Another feature we love in this room is the way the sink sits atop a wood stand. There’s a beauty in its simplicity, and it doesn’t take away from the wallpaper.
One more feature to note — we mounted the sconces on the side walls so that we could eke out the largest mirror possible. Together, the sconces and mirror add a lot of depth to this petite nook.
Subtle Patterns
For some, more subtle and toned-down is the vibe they want in the powder room. This approach can be more restful. In the room seen above, the color scheme is monotone and neutral, with champagne accents adding brightness.
The pinstriped wallpaper pattern is simple and accentuates height in the room. This kind of pattern works well with the angled ceiling overhead too.
The room’s tailored look continues on the vanity. It has the look of a chest of drawers and has simple beveled hardware.
This bathroom is also bathed in light neutral tones. Polished nickel, glass and veining in the countertop add elegance. We also love the scalloped corners and beveled edge of the mirror. Mirrors are a great way to add detail to a bathroom.
Here’s a closer look at the walls. the pattern has irregular dots that lend a coastal vibe. So do the seeded glass sconce shades.
Scenic Patterns
We talked about large scale possibilities for wallpapers and scenic patterns are another way to go. You can go for a classic Asian motif like the one here, or even go for a full mural. Glass shades allow keep the view of the wallpaper open.
The colors and shapes in this wallpaper inspired everything from the brass and black finishes to the silhouettes of the sink’s legs. Meanwhile, the hexagonal mirror brings in a little geometric relief. Its hard edges create some contrast with the busier pattern on the wall.
Geometric Patterns
Classic Greek key wallpaper adorns the walls of this pretty powder room. The vanity is a perfect match to its blue hues.
Patterned Tile
At first glance, this pretty powder room appears to have a lovely wallpaper with a criss-cross pattern base. But these walls are actually tiled! We love the extra dimension this brings to the room. And it’s certainly low-maintenance and easy to keep clean.
